ROTORUA NOTES.

Miss Sargeant and Mr. S. Sargeant. who have been on a visit to Devonport, have returned to Rotorua. Mrs. J. d' Davys, Mrs. Sledge, and Miss V. Davys! of Pukuatua Street, are spending a fortnight's holiday at Mon Desir Hotel, Takapuna. Mrs. J. St. Clair and Miss' V. St. Clair have returned from a visit to Auckland. Mies J. Carter, who has been on a visit to Auckland and Warkworth, has returned to Rotorua. Mrs. Bertram and the Misses Bertram, Ranolf Street, and Mrs. Giesen, Haupapa Street, are spending a holiday at Kohimaramara. Mrs Duncan Steele, Tutanekai Street, has left on a visit to Auckland. Mrs. D. MacKay and Miss Margaret MacKay, of the Thames, are on a visit to Rotorua, and are the guests of Mrs. A. T. Coates, Malfroy Road. Miss Ayerill, Divisional Commissioner of the Girl Guides, Auckland, is on a visit to Rotorua, and is staying at Brents Bathgate House. Mrs. J. Redwood, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. M. Gordon, Victoria Street, has returned to her home in Wanganui. Mrs. J. B. Shields, Pererika Street, is spending a few days with relatives in Mercer. Mrs. H. H. Davis and Master Davis have returned to Rotorua from Auckland. At St. Luke's Parish Hall, on Thursday evening, a successful progressive bridge and 500 tournament evening was held, under the auspices of the St. Luke's Ladies' Guild. The lounge was arranged for the bridge players, and was prettily decorated with bowls of spring bulbs.. The prizes were won by Mrs. R. Griffith and Mr. A. G. Holland. The 500 tournament was held in the body of the ball, the prizewinners being Miss Thompson, for the ladies, and Mrs. Duncan Steele, who played as a gentleman, for the gentlemen. After a dainty supper was served by the members of

the guild, the rest of the evening was devoted to dancing. On Friday evening, at the Peerless Hall, a very successful dance and 500 tournament, under the auspices of the Eotorua Hockey Association, was held. iThe dance was to endeavour to raise funds for a> member of the association, who, some weeks ago, had the misfortune to meet with a serious accident while on the field. The ladies of the Auckland Basketball team were the guests of the evening. Carnival eapa, confetti, streamers, and novelty dances were a feature of the evening's entertainment. After supper Mrs. Edwin Robertson, president of the Ladies' Hockey Club, and donor of the Robertson Cup, presented the cup to the captain of the Shamrock Club, who were the' successful challengers. Before presenting the cup, Mrs. Robertson welcomed the members of the visiting Basketball team. The winners of the Monte Carlo dances were: Miss Tyson and partner, and Miss A. Constant and partner. The winners of the 500 tournament were: Ladies, Mrs. Thompson, 1} booby, Mrs. Armer, senr.; gentlemen's, Mr. Downs, 1; booby, Mr. Jerri*, senr. The travelling prizes were eventually won by Mrs. W. Walker and Mr. W. Tucker.
