(By Telerraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. Mr. H. T. Read, butcher, was charged in the Police Court to-day, on the information of the borough inspector, with exposing for sale pork that had not been killed at an abattoir or by a bonafide farmer. Evidence was given tiy the borough inspector that he witnessed a pig being slaughtered at defendant's premises and the pork exposed for sale. Mr. Beeche, for defendant, challenged the reasonableness of the by-law, which he submitted was not equal between different classes. The magistrate said the duty of the Court was to maintain the by-laws of the local authority, within reason. He held that the by-law was not unreasonable or partial, and that no Court could read anything to contrary into it. Defendant would be convicted and fined £2, witfe costs. • Defendant gave an undertaking not to repeat the offence.
