HEROIC RESCUE.
FALL INTO VESUVIUS. SOME, August 12. A tourist who was peering into the lavs' from the' rim of Mount Vesuvius had a narrow" escape from a terrible death. He slipped and was sliding down the crater aide towards the lava when a sergeant of the Carabineers jumped in and threw a rope to Mm. « Th* rope snapped on a sharp edge of rock, sending botfci further down towards the moHenlata. Beoovering his balance, the carabineer again threw the rope to the tourist, who thie time was hauled to the top after two houre of desperate struggling.
