SHORE IN FORM.
The game between Devonport United and Richmond opened at a fast pace, the first thrill coming when the black forwards %wept play to the Richmond goal. Richmond retaliated with a dangerous cut-in by Prentice, who was grassed by Perry a few yards from the line. Devonport returned to the attack, and. with the Richmond backs out of position, Ruby secured and ran through unopposed to score a good try. A Scott put the nags up. Play quietened down for a while, faulty handling by both sets of backs spoiling many promising movements. Shore gradually worked their way to Richmond's quarter, where Beattle obtained possession close to the line and struggled across with a couple of men on top of him. A Scott's kick wae a beauty. On resuming fir*t Richmond and then Shore almost scored from passing rushes. Twice Webb saved Shore with a timely kick. Richmond kept up the pressure, and from a scrum on Shore's lino the ball came out to Hyland, who was over in a flash. Taylor missed tne kick. Richmond 3, Shore 10. The blacks looked dangerous when Beattle. Scott and Webb broke away in a passing rush, but Richmond repulsed this attack, and set up a counter attack, from which Bass scored. Carroll made no mistake with the kick. Richmond S, Devonport 10.
Shore rushed play to Richmond's end. where a ocrum was put down. Shore hooked, and La ing sent out a long pass to Beattie, who showed a clean pair of heels to the defence, and raced between two men to score beneath the post*. A. Scott again goaled. Just before time Rule added a try, and the game ended :— Devonport 18 Richmond •••«..« S
