"DID NOT REALISE CHIME."
FIFTH OFFKXDKi; FINED £10,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
DUXEDIN, this dav.
Alexander Campbell, James Shaw Campbell, Charles James Thomas Alexander Lowery, Frederick William Bamfield, and Clifford Peel appeared to-day for sentence by Mr. Justice Sim on charges of false pretences in connection with motor car transactions.
The judge said he was satisfied that prisoners did not realise that what they were doing amounted in law to a crime. However, a crime had been clearly committed. The finance corporations had suffered no actual loss, and, as prisoners hitherto had borne a good character and had already suffered considerable punishment, a fine would meet the case. All the prisoners would be fined £30 with the exception of Peel, who would be fined f 10.
