102 YEARS OLD.
PIONEER GOLD-SEEKER. MR. DENNIS RYAN, OF HUIROA. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday. Mr. Dennis Ryan, of Huiroa, is 102 years old to-day. His family and his triends gathered at his home to congratulate him. Born in Ireland in IS'Zo, Mr. Ryan went to Australia in the ship Lord Hungerford, and was for some time on the gold diggings of Ballarat and Bendigo. Later he crossed to New Zealand, joining in the rush to Gabriel's Gully, but he was not one of the lucky ones. He then joined the police force, and was stationed at Porirua for some years. After that he took up a farm at Tawa Flat, near Wellington, and worked it for 30 years before he retired.
