j Disaster At Nanking Due To! j Carelessness. BRITISHERS ATTACKED. j (Ileccivpd 11 a.m.) SHANGHAI, July 3. Two hundred Chinese, men. women and children were killed and injured in the vicinity of Nanking when a native junk, carrying explosives, blew up through the crew's carelessness. ! The junk was moored to the railway I wharf and the explosion wrecked dozens r of buildings adjoining. Three Chinese passengers on a British ' river boat, proceeding from Shanghai to I Hankow, were wounded when the vessel ■ was attacked by soldiers on the river I bank. A protest lodged with Chiang KaiI shek elicited the reply that he was not I responsible for the troops affiliated with i the Hankow Government. > The attack is the first for several - weeks. i VIVISECTION. LONDON, June 25. ; Lecturing here yesterday, Peagahid . Bose, Indian botanist, predicted that the 1 vivisection of plants will ultimately 5 supersede experiments on animals.
