BOROUGHS' AMALGAMATION.

NORTH SHORE PROPOSAL,

BIRKEXHEAD-XORTHCOTE

FAVOURED,

With a view to ascertaining the opinions of the Borough Councils regarding the union of the four Xorth Shore districts, the Xorthcote Borough Council recently sent each a communication on tho subject. This came before the Birkenhead Borough Council last evening, when it was unanimously decided "That in the opinion of this council the time is not opportune for the amalgamation of the four Xorth Shore borough, but this council is of the opinion that '.he time has arrived—and more than arrived— for the amalgamation of the boroughs of Birkenhead and Xorthcote,"

In the course of the discussion, Air. L. P.. L. Moller expressed the opinion that Birkenhead and Xorthcote should unite on the one hand, and perhaps Devonport and Takapuna on the other. The union of the whole lot could come later.

Mr. C. E. Campbell said lie favoured the Birkenhead-Northcote union now, and later on the whole of the North Shore; and, later still, joining Greater Auckland. Mr. Hadfield: Don't go that far! Mr. Campbell: You wait till after the town planning conferencc!
