TOOK LIQUOR.
TO GIVE HIM COURAGE.
SUICIDE CONTEMPLATED. CONSTABLE TO THE RESCUE. It was fortunate for Arthur Isaac Martin (51), that a constable going on night duty at Devonport at 8.45 last night observed him, otherwise he might have been floating in the harbour bv now. Martin appeared at the Police Court this morning, charged with being an idle and disorderly person, with insufficient means of support. He admitted to the constable that he yesterday spent his last penny on drink to pluck up enough courage to commit suicide," stated Sub Inspector Lewin, who asked for a week's remand. This was granted, Captain Davies, of the Salvation Army agreeing to look after Martin when he was free.
