A GRAPHIC PLEA.
SOVIET HORRORS. WARSAW, June 20. Kowerda, speaking without notes, at his trial for the murder of Virkoff, the Russian Minister at Warsaw, pleaded with the judges for fifteen minutes. In a voice that frequently broke down, says "The Tiir.ee" Wars .w correspondent, he described the terrors and atrocities he had witnessed as a child in Samara and Vilna, after the Bolshevik capture of the latter city, including a stationmaster and an engine driver being thrown into the engine furnace because a troop train was late. He declared that Russia was a land of desolation, where nun were eaiing men. He had felt impelled to go there to strike a blow against the Bolsheviks, but denied being a Monarchist. He really was a Russian Democrat, hating Sovietism. Ke was indifferent whether it was replaced by a monarchy or a republic.
