"DON JUAN" ASSAULTED.

RECEIVES SLIGHT SYMPATHY.

"A GENERAL 'BAD EGG.'" SECOND-HAND DEALER BY TRADE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. ''The man is a Don Juan—a boaster of what he's accomplished with the fair sex —and a general 'bad egg.' " That was the description Mr. C. S. Thomas applied to Thomas Joseph Barnes, a second-hand dealer, who brought another second-hand dealer to Court on an information alleging assault. It was alleged that while Barnes was talking with defendant's wife the defendant arrived at the shop and so battered Barnes that he bad to undergo medical treatment for a week.

Counsel said the assault was admitted. Defendant had no suspicion of the moral character of his wife, but he had "seen red." Morally, his action was justified. Defendant was convicted and discharged, and the magistrate agreed to suppress his name.
