WAITEMATA POWER.
DEVONPORT ENGINEER. RESIGNATION OF MR. SPARROW. The resignation of Mr. L. C. H. Sparrow, engineer at Devonport, was received by the Waitemata Electric Power Board to-day. This was accepted with regret as from July 1, and Mr. Sparrow given six months' leave of absence from that date. Eulogistic references were made by the chairman (Mr. J. W. Hayden) and members to the broad outlook taken by Mr. Sparrow right throughout the negotiations between the board and the Devonport Borough Council for the purchase of the latter's electrical undertaking, of which Mr. Sparrow had been engineer- for four years past. He had consistently advised the Borough Council to link up with the Power Board on the broad grounds of ultimate mutual benefit, and no suggestion had been made by him at any time that he should personally be assured of a position under the Power Board. Mr. Sparrow has purchased a business, which he takes over early next month, and the best wishes of the members of the board were voiced at to-day's meeting for his future success.
