m INSPECTION OF REGISTERS. SCHOOL COMMITTEE OBJECTS. At a meeting of the Surfdale School Committee consideration was given to the circular sent out by the Auckland Board of Education. The circular stated that the Board had received a request from the Bible in School League to allow the league's representative to enter schools and inspect the registers, and obtain, therefrom, the names and addresses of childrens' parents for the purpose of takine a plebicite of the parents on the Bible in Schools question. The circular further stated that the Education Board had resolved to give the desired permission, subject to conditions, which placed the onus on the school committees. Considerable discussion followed; several members expressing the opinion that granting the league's request would be tantamount to the committee identifying itself with the tactics pursued by one side on a very controversial subject. Other members expressed the opinion that anything leading to religious strife, should be kept out of schools attended by children of different denominations. Finally the committee decided, b\ unanimous resolution, to refuse thit Bible-in-Schools representative permission to enter the school for the said pur pose.
