KING COUNTRY tIQUOR. Ri:FERENDUM FAVOURED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday. The operation of the no-license law in the King Country was at a meeting of the Waitomo Licensing Committee to-day. Members stated that liquor wa« finding its way into the King Country, and was a menace to the Maori people. The system of sly grog-selling was causing young men, who under the proper control of tlie traffic would not touch liquor, to become drunkards. Resolutions were passed urging the Government to take a refrendnm on the license question in the district, and if the vote were favourable, to trrniit licenses immediately. It was stated that the late Mr. Missey had promised to give Parliament .<ti opportunity to discuss the question. "The whole position has become a farce, as the law is not being obeyed." said one member.
