Pointed evidence of the centralisation rf the business arna of the Borough of Thames has been afforded by the erection of large central chambers in Pollen Street, close to the Thames South Post Office. The new building, which is neariifC completion, was constructed of concrete blocks, is two storey, and has a fronlafse of 33ft to Pollen Street, and extends back for OOfu The ground floor contains two large shops, with livihg rooms, while there aae eight rooms upstairs suitable for offices, fitted with cloak rooms and modem sanitation dc. vices. The building was erected to the order of Mr. X. Rarbalich by Mr. ( . W. Potterton. the well-known lo?al bunder. Following on the deputation which -waited upon the Prime Minister at Auckland recently to urge the placing of railway work with Messrs. A. and G. Price. Lid.. Thames, to relieve unemployment loOnlly, a wire has been received that th® only work available was thirty locomotive cylinders, and these have been offered to the firm. There is a possibility of further work l>eing given later on.
