MR. W. L. SIMPSON.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Fridav. The death of Mr. William Laurence ..impson, one of Otago's earliest colonics, occurred to-day. He was born in Scotland 00 a oars ago, and came to Port Chalmers in January, 1863, in the ship Ben Lomond, and shortly after landing lie entered the Government service as a clerk and receiver of gold revenue on the Otago goldfields. He was afterwards appointed a warden and resident magistrate, a position he occupied in different centres in Otago for 16 Years. He was appointed a resident magistrate at Dunedin in 187f>. and this position he held until December. ISS2. when lie retired to become manager of the Trustees. Executors and Agency Company of' New Zealand. Aftpr 3S years of continuous, service Mr. Simpson relinquished that position owing to advancing years.
