NATIONAL FESTIVAL.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ELECTED. BIG PROGRAMME FOR NOVEMBER. Definite arrangements for the holding of a New Zealand National Festival to advertise Auckland and assist charities were made at a meeting of the general committee held at the Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon. Mr. R. B. Lusk, was appointed chairman of the general committee, and an executive committee was elected, consisting of Colonel H. R. Potter, Messrs. A. S. Bankart, R. B. Lusk, George Walker, N. A. Duthie, A. M. Prentis, and Mrs. E. A Kidd. It was decided to hold the festival for eight day* during November, and the general organiser, Mr. Albert Goldic, submitted a programme for the consideration of the executive committee, including a battle of flowers carnival, a great fair, Olympic sports, an historical pageant play, displays by school children, contests between natives of various South Sea Islands, a pageant displaying the prowess and physique of young New Zealand, a comedy football match in fancy dress entitled "Soccer versus Rugby" and other attractions. Competitions on a big scale for the benefit of the funds which will culminate during Festival Week, will be commenced shortly.
