CARNIVAL IN NOVEMBER.
MAKING A GOOD START. Auckland's carnival, which a number of business people are organising, on the lines of' the sort of thing that is held annually in some of the Continental towns, is to be called a National Festival, and it will last for eight days during November, when good weather may generally be looked for. At yesterday's meeting of the committee Mr. R. B. Lusk was appointed chairman, and a strong finance and executive committee was elected, the members being Mrs. A. E. Kidd, Col. H. R. Potter, Messrs. A. S. Bankart, R. B. Lusk, George Walker, N. A. Duthie, A. M. Prentis.
Included in the programme will be sports on a targe scale, a big fair, pageants, a battle of flowers, and while the Festival is on there will be a Domin-ion-wide competition. The organiser, Mr. Albert Goldie, gave an encouraging report of the response to his inquiries among business people. The proceeds of the festival are to be distributed among charitable institutions.
