SHORT TIME IN THE TIMBER INDUSTRI.
(To the Editor.) I want to point out the methods adojtaf , by one of the large sawmills which lfuutij, reduced hours. A certain number of mm are required to work on Friday and Satenhjr when the mill is stopped. One would he* thought this work, which requires no daO rf, any kind, would have been given turn ahafeemonpst the men. th«= giving all a shaie mthe extra work, but this is not so. A far} have been picked to do the work even- vofc* and these few put in full time all the tia** while others who need money just as ask get no share at all. The men picked an tk» higher paid employees, vrhilc the mirneer. paid men jro u-ithout. I know of one, a>l ! no doubt there are other*, who has abort tm,shUlingg a week on which to feed and dotib"' three, pay union fee, etc-, after payments oa~ honse and other expenses \rhich have to le paid are met. Yet this man. trho is reoeniv the minimum wagp. onlv ct?ts the four dtjt a week; I think the union should look vie this matter. tA I B pi^j.
