TROTTING.

WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES. (By ORION.) SEASON'S FIXTURES. Judo .". 4.—Canterbury Park TmtMnc Club. June IS. •.-.—Auckland Trottins Club Nominations for nil event* t«. He decided at the Auckland Trotting l luh's winter meeting clo.»e to-day «t ."i p.m. with the secretary, Mr. (". V. Mark. Owing to the wet weather c\]>oricnced lately, trainers at Epsom ha\e been able to do little fast work with their teams, but yesterday afternoon a number of horses were worked our without being asked to go at top. If. Kinnamont was at Epsom yesterday morning with a team of six. but owing to the state of the track he took his horses aloiiL' the roads for a walk, intending to return in the afternoon and work the team. The closing of the gate at the Green Lane entrance to Alexandra Park is not appreciated by trainers, who consider that they should not lx> asked to take their horses alone the main road where the traffic is thick in order to reach the entrance gate on the Campbell Park side ■«f the course. The majority of trainers include in their teams young horses who nre liable to play up, and possibly I* injured, if taken past tram and motor cars. W. Evans has decided to retire from the trotting sport after the winter meeting, and will take over the Waiwera Hotel. «The owuer-trainer of Master Councillor considers thnt the conditions offering at Epsom for get tin 2 horse* ready are not all they should be. nnd that local men have little rhnnr-e of holding their own with the visitor?, who are provided with better training facilities. He will leave Moko Pete in the paddock, hut Master Councillor he will lc«*e. He has had two hotels previously, the Northland and the I'nited Service. An exchange states that an interesting piece of work at Addinglon on Saturday was a work-out l>etween Daphne de Oro. by Key de Oro from Dollar Princess, and Mr. M. O'Brien's Logan Pointer—Lady Superior gelding, engaged in the Ne,w Zealand Sapling Stakes at Ashburton next month. Starting from the two-mile post in company with Bonny Logan, both youngsters maintained an even gait for a mile and aquarter, when they were eased up after making an excellent showing. The first quarter of a mile took 34 1 .".. four fur long 1.7 2-5; mile. 2.21 -. and the full journey, 2.52 2-5; the last two furlongs taking 32 2-5 was highly creditable and augurs well for the future of both youngsters. Only two. Peterwah and Concliffe, have dropped out of the Kin:: George Handicap, leaving a useful field of ten to contest the event, says a Chri«tchurch writer. The absence of Concliffe comes somewhat as a surprise, and i« to be regretted from the point of view of the general public. It looks as if the winner of this race is most likely to come from Escapade. Cardinal Ix>gan. Loean Chief and Waitaki Girl. The splendid achievements of the fist-named are so fresh in everyone's memory that there is no need to recapitulate them here. Cardinal Logan has no recent winning form to his credit, but he is a good horse, and in this company has an opportunity which does not often come along. Logan Chief has been doing extremely satisfactory work, and the critics down south expect him to show a taste of his old form. Not much ha* been heard of Waitaki Girl of late, but she is rather well treated in being handicapped on a 4.24 mark, and as the track conditions may be on the soft side she will have everything in her favour. Reducing it to three, Logan Chief. Waitaki Girl, and Cardinal Logan appear to be the pick of the field.

Lady Brooke is American-bred. being sired by .T. Malcolm Forl* , *. 2.0*; dam of Silent Brook. The marc wa* imported to Kngland in 1620 i« a five-vear-old. and took a record at Grcenford Driving Park of 2.20.

F. Smith, «ho owns Tui Zolock. is now irying hi« hand on the disappointing D«-La\an Bill. The Utter ba.« been a big disappointment »inoe 0. Phipps brought him a<~ro*« from Sydney pome season*ago. and if Smith can get him to win a race he will certainly be entitled to credit. Delavan Bill i» looking well. and is gom£ along nicely in what little work hi* trainer has be*o able to give him. but whether he will po generously throughout a race remain* to be *een. Very often a change of M»bl«-s work* wonder', and maybe Delavan BUI »ill i:nprove in his ways.
