SUPREME COURT.
PRISONERS SENTENCED. YOUNG MAX ABUSES TRUST. '"As a young man you have lia.l excellent chances, and you have failed to take advantage of them," was the observation of Mr. Justice Herd man in the Supreme Court this morning, when sentencing William Francis Kelly (22) to reformative detention for a j>oriod not exceeding twelve months for forgery and false pretences. "How you .came to lapse into these criminal habits I dou't know," he added. "I am informed that there is another charge pending against you at New Plymouth. You were put in a position of trust, and you abused that trust.' . The only thing he cmld do in the circumstances was to admit prisoner to reformative detention.
Forgery and Uttering. William Clifford Ballam, a young man. appeared for sentence for the second time within a week, on charges of forgery, uttering and theft. His Honor said he understood accused had to go to Wanganui in respect to further offences. He did not propose to punish prisoner further, but he would be sentenced to twelve months' hard labour, the sentence to be concurrent to that already imposed.
