SOCIETY OF MUSICIANS.

A reception was held last night in the Lyceum Club lounge by the Auckland Society of Musicians for Mr. Efrem Zimbalist, who, owing to the late arrival of the Tofua, was unable to be present.; The lounge was decorated for the occasion with huge bowls of golden and brown African marigolds. Mr. Barry Coney, the president of the society, expressed regret at the absence of Mr. Zimbalist and extended a welcome to Mr. Huskevitch, who is Mr. Zimbalist's I concert manager. In a short address Mr. Huskevitch apologised for the unfor* tunate absence of the celebrated violinist, and related some amusing experiences whilst abroad. Amongst those present were Mr. D. O'Connor and Mr. and Mrs. Hulenberg. During the evening an excellent programme was provided. Madame Mabel St. James gave two delightful recitations, "A Story of the Desert" and "A Chinese Dinner." A group of Hebridean songs was sung by Miss A. Hansard; Miss Dora Judson gave a piano solo, "Fire Music" by Wagner; and in charming old-world costumes, Madame Edith Baird and Mr. D'Este danced the minuet. Miss Palita Groves also gave an attractive little dance "Poem."

Mrs. Huskevitch wore a frock of unrelieved black georgette, Miss Alice Law had on black georgette heavily sequined and a posy on the shoulder, Mrs. Boult wore black with touches of gold, and Mrs. Archdale Tayler was in black velvet with panels of gold lace, Miss Margaret Stoddart was in black souple satin, Miss Judson wore platinum georgette, and Miss Amy Stevenson burgundy velvet. Mrs. Hollinrake wore black beaded georgette, Mrs. C. Towsey, black georgette with diamante trimming; Mrs. Cox, planinum lace; Mrs. Trafford, white crepe de chine with single posy on shoulder; Mrs. C. Prime, black souple satin; Mrs. L. Speedy, apricot chenille; Mrs. H. R. Hesketh, orchid chenille; Mrs. Venables, frock of black sequin; Mrs. | Mitchell, black beaded georgette; Miss | M. Trafford, buttercup crepe de chine; | Miss Cox, ciel blue.
