SAINT MARY'S HOMES.
USEFUL HELP FROM BEQUESTS
FIFTY YEARS VALUABLE WORK.
The annual report for Rt. Mary's Homes, Otahulm (issued for nine months only, in order to bring the financial year into line with that of other diocesan institutions), shows an increase in bequests over the preceding year of £805. The Christmas fund donations amounted to £97, a very gratifying response to the appeal, and a sale of work brought in £39. The expenditure side showed a saving of £972 in the house account. The capital fund was substantially reduced in 1925 owing to necessary outlay on buildings, but a sura of £1015 has since been added, owing to bequests from the Lubecki and other estates. Further bequests are impending. The fund, however, is still below its normal level, and the help of subscribers and supporters is needed in order to build it up again. The report continues:— "The work of the Hos-.Zs lias now been carried on for the best part of fifty years. During this time more than a thousand girls have passed through the Training Home, most of whom have taken to heart the lessons there taught, and have since lived reputable lives. More than a thousand infanta have been sheltered in the Campbell Nursery, a department of tne homes that has been the means of Irequently saving life, thus securing to the State a not insignificant part of its best asset—the child. Under the blessing of Almighty God the work has been maintained by devoted workers and sympathetic supporters year in and year out through a long period. Funds have sometimes failed fop a while, other difr ficulties have been experienced; but the doors of\ the homes have ever remained open, and the work of help and reforma-* tion has never ceased. Thus the results of the past give us fresh courae'e for the future."
