SCHOOL REGISTERS.
USE FOR PROPAGANDA.
Iβ PROTEST.
A MYSTERIOUS CIRCULAR.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day.
After a long and acrimonious discus■lon last night the Wellington School Committees' Association carried a resolution protesting against the reported action of the Bible-in-Schools League in endeavouring to secure the use of school registers for the purpose of having a plebiscite taken on the question of Bible reading in schools, and calling upon the Education Board to refuse any such request.
There was considerable doubt in the minds of members as to what had actually been done in regard to the question, Mr. J. W. Salmon, however, stated that he had seen a circular issued by the Education Board to head teachers, asking them to ghe every assistance to representatives of the Bible-in-Schools League in ascertaining the names and addresses of parents.
Mr. Nicholls and Mr. Clark, both members of the Education Board, indicated that they had no recollection of the board having discussed the matter at all. Mr. Clark said the secretary told liim the matter had been discussed, but, iaid Mr. Clark, the proposal certainly had not come before the board in the manner in which it was now before the public.
