"RUSHING ITS FENCES."
DAIRY BOARD'S MISTAKE.
COMMENT BY MR. STEWART,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
FEILDING, Monday.
The Hon. W. Downie Stewart, who addressed a meeting here to-night, was asked his opinion of the Dairy Control Board.
The Minister said that in his opinion the board made a mistake in "rushing its fences" and trying to do in one year what it should hare taken ten years to accomplish. He pointed out, as far as the present criticism of the Prime Minister was concerned, that they were "all in it." It was not fair to concentrate fire on Mr. Coates.
Mr. Stewart added that his opinion was that where these boards or pools concentrated on improving grading, regulating supplies and finding new markets they often succeeded, but when they then adopted the fixation of prices they did not meet with success. It was not Tooley Street or large financial interests which opposed the Dairy Control Board, but the consumer in England.
