ON SATURDAY NIGHT. PINED ON THREE CHARGES. YOUNG MAN OF LARRIKIN TYPE. James Grant (25) got himself in a bit of bother on Saturday night. As a result he appeared at the Police Court this morning, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., charged with being disorderly while drunk in Queen Street, using obscene language, and also with having assaulted Charles Campbell Hyan. Ryan, who is employed at the AngloAmerican Cafe, said that he was standing by the Queen Street door when Grant, who stood at the edge of the pavement, made threatening gestures. He approached witness and said, "The last time I was here you cost me £4." Accused then tried to clutch at witness , throat and suddenly rushed in and punched him. According to Senior Sergeant Edwards, accused had three previous convictions for obscene language. He was of the larrikin type. Grant told" the magistrate that Ryan, on several occasions, made insulting remarks to him in the street. "I've a good mind to send you to gaol for seven days," Mr. Hunt said in imposing fines of £1 on each of the first and third charges, and £2, or seven days' imprisonment, on the second charge.
