Civilian Airmen's Endurance Test. TWO DATS AND TWO NIGHTS. rfi New "Vork, April IS. - Messrs. Bert Acosta and Clarence Chamberlain, two civilian airmen. ; created a new world's record for aa endurance flight above Long Island. They remained in the air for 51 honra 12 minutes, beating the previous record of 45 hours 11 minutes 59 seconds held by MM. Landry and Droughin, of France. Many thousands of people cheeredwildly, while the police fought to hold* the crowd back when the airmen landedJ The builder of the machine, which* carried Wright engines, dashed on to, the field in a motor car at a wild speed' in his anxiety to be the first to greet-' them. The monoplane used wcichs 18501b. b The flight was begun with 235 gallons of gasoline. Both men seemed to be in excellent physical condition at the conclusion of the flight.
