WINDOW CLEANER'S LAPSE.
STEALS MONEY FROM OFFICE. BOBBED TETER TO PAY PALL. With Percival Ernest Bancroft (41) it was a case of robbing Peter to pay PauL Bancroft pleaded guilty at the Police Court this morning that be stole the turn of £10 12/ in money belonging to Auckland Motors. Ltd., on Thumlay last. Accused, said Chief Detective Cutnmings, was employe*! as a windowcleaner, and while working at Auckland Motors. Ltd.. he awaited his opportunity and stole the money, which was in envelopes and w-as the wages of emplovces. He staled when interviewed that with the stolen money he repaid an old debt. Bancroft was a returned soldier, who was in indifferent healthHe was a married man with a family, and had never been in Court before. Accused's employer, giving evidence, stated that Bancroft had worked for him for the past seven years and had always shown that he w-as an honest man. Witness thought that accused had fallen to sudden temptation. Chief Detective Cummings: "The worst feature of the case is that suspicion might have fallen on the office staff." Mr. Hunt: Exactly. Well I will give him a chance, but it will be his last chance. He will l>e admitted to probation for 12 months and will be ordered to make full restitution.
