CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.

AUTUMN MEETING ON EASTER MONDAY. REVIEW OF THE FIELDS. (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The autumn meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club will be held on Monday and Tuesday. With so much racing in various parts of the Dominion the good horses are well distributed, and visiting competitors are never so much in evidence at Riccarton at Easter as at the Grand National and Cup meetings. For the approaching fixture, however, there is promise of twenty outside horses, but most of them will come from the South. The North Island contingent will number only half a dor.en. but a pleasing feature is that they include candidates for the principal handicaps. Racing will open with the Kildare Handihurdle race. Sayonara has been galloping well on the tracks.

Sayonara has been galloping well on the tracks.

The Champagne Stakes will probably be a benefit for Mr. G. D. Greenwood, who has Agrion and Eulalie engaged. Sir Roy is top-weight in the Autumn Plate, but as a counter-balance he has good credentials for running out a mile.

The biggest field of the day will be seen in the Russley Plate for two-year-olds, the.-e being sixteen acceptors. Shalimar and Solgele have useful winning form to recommend them, but Scoff may trouble them, as he is a galloper of more than average promise.

The Great Easter Handicap looks very open. Centrepiece is in great fettle, and he is to be preferred to Rapier and Footfall oi the score of extra brilliancy. Shirley showed that she was at her best by reeling off a great gallop of six furlongs on Thursday morning. The only doubt is

whether she will run out the "last furlong. Booster Is very well, but he is now among the good ones in weight. Nincompoop has been galloping freely of late, but he was beaten on Thursday morning by Set Sail, who was conceding a lot of weight. On this form the Southland mare should be hard to beat. Young Lochinvar has registered some attractive sprints lately, and he will have to be reckoned with. Haze has doue a lot of smart galloping over short courses, and there is an impression abroad that he will run well. Receipt can run seven furlongs solidly, but I.ava does not appeal. Shirley and Set Sail are a pair who should be dangerous.

Fourteen hacks of mixed class are en. gaged in the Gimcrnck Handicap. Autobiography has shown plenty of speed, and he may be prominent if he can stay seven furlongs.

Five Great Autumn candidates are Included in the eight acceptors lor the Sockburn Handicap. Front Rank and Assurance are a pair of three-year-olds likely to race well. For the Courtenay Handicap. Rascal may find Thorndale a troublesome opponent.
