CITY COUNCIL.

The Auckland City Council met on Thursday night, the Mayor (Mr. Georgo Baildon) presiding. Wintering of Boats.—Permission was granted to the Akaraua Yacht Club for the members to haul up their boats in Judges Bay for the winter, on the condition that the bench was cleared ot all boats by November 13, and that no work was done on Sundays. Children's Demonstration.—lt was docided to reduce the charge to the Education Board to £100 for the trams used to convey children to the Auckland Domain lor the rehearsals held in connection with the recent Royal visit. Tip at Garnet Road.—As the outcome of a complaint in regard to the rubbish tip at Garnet Road the city engineer was instructed to report on the best way of dealing with the city refuse, and to abate the present nuisance. Damaged Motor Car. —The council decided to pay Mr. A. Hanna. acting for Mr. R. Woolley, the sum of £55, for damage caused to a motor car in Harbour Street. Ponsonhy. Orakci Bridge.—ln connection with repairs to Orakci Bridge, the council voted £28, half the cost of estimated repairs. Orakei Road Complaints.—Following a number of complaints by residents of Orakei Road the engineer reported thai arrangements had been made to remove loose metal stored there. Franklin Road. —The city engineer reported that preparations had been made for the tar-sealing of Franklin Road. Grafton Bridge.—The following tendeis were received for the re-surfacing of Grafton Bridge: British Pavements. Limited. £1332; Xcuchatel Asphalt Companj . Limited, £994 (accepted). Hospital Wireless.—A request for u donation towards the cost of wireless equipment was refused. Rates Remitted. —The council decided to remit 129 rates charged to the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron for the 6lipway site in Beaumont tSreet. Donation of £20.—1t was decided to pay £20 to the Y.M.C.A. in settlement of the 10 per cent policy which had been incurred on the rates of the Y.M.C.A. property due to one of the statT omitting to make the necessary payment until one clay late. Poppy Day Pund.—At the request of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association the council decided to purchase a wreath tor £o 5/ in connection with the Poppy Day fund. Unemployed.—The New Zealand Natives Association requested the council to establish a precedent in the employing of ratepayers and New Zealnnders who were unemployed, and protested against employing by council of immigrants, when then; were so many New Zealanders out of work. The association further protested against the action of the City Council in refusing its request for permission to hold a streets collection for the unemployed. The communications were received. L'psom Reserve.—The parks committee was given power to act in developing the recreation reserve at Epsom. The superitendent of parks reported that the reserve would cost a considrable amount of inonev to lay out. Night Parking Area.—The Auckland Automobile Association was granted per mission to establish a night-parking arev for motor cars in the centre of Albert Street, between Customs Street West and Quay Street." Women's Cloak Rooms.—A letter from the National Council of Women, bringing under the council's notice the need lor more cloakrooms for women in the citv. was received. Portland Road. Remuera.—Complaints of tlie unsatisfactory condition of Portland Koad were received from Mr. F. .1 Cox and 19 others. The complaints referred especially to the portion of the road from its junction with Remuera Road to its junction with Alfred Rond. and also from Ingram Road to Shore Road.
