CAPTAIN ALAN E. CAIN.

Captain Alan Ernest Cain, R.JJ.R., D.S.C., died on board his steamer, the Limerick, at Sydney, aged 49 yean. He joined the Union Company's service in 1903, and his first command was the Kaitangata, to which he was appointed in November, 1912. He was later in command of tbe Kaiapoi, and in February, 1915. was granted leave for naval service. He served with distinction on the Palestine Coast and was awarded the Distintruished Service Cross. In 1910 he was demobilised and given command of the Waitemata. He later commanded the Navua, the Westrneatb and the new motor vessel Limerick.
