AUCKLAND V. VICTORIA.

VISITING SIDE SCORE 212,

HOME TEAM BATTING

With neither team at full strength, the Auckland and Victoria University College's representatives began thei.animal cricket match at Eden Park yesterday afternoon. The. visitors batted tirst on a good wicket, and were dismissed for 212 runs. Auckland had four runs on without the loss of a wicket when stumjju were drawn on account of the bad light.

Holling?, tlie well-known Wellington representative player, opened with Osborne, and put 20 runs on before the jiartnership was broken. Tripe came next, and after some bright batting llolliugs fell to a fine catch by McDougall in the country. McKenzie and Tripe carried the score to 130, when the latter, who had reached the half-century, was clean-bowled by Saunders. McKenzie batted freely, and had the honour of making the highest score of the day. Saunders and Garrard were the most etrective of the Auckland bowlers, l>otli turning the ball to a marked degree. The Auckland tielding was patchy, although at times on a high level.

Hudson and Wilson opened for Auckland, but, with four runs on the board, an appeal against the light was upheld.
