DOMESTIC QUARREL.
WOMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED.
HUSBAND BEFORE THE COURT
CHARGED WITH ASSAULT.
Suffering from serious head injuries, Mrs. A. E. Clive. who resides in Valentine Lane, off Nelson Street, was admitted to the hospital on Thursday night. Her husband. John Clive (">ol was subsequently arrested by Sergeant Lambert, charged with assaulting his wife. When Clive appeared at the Police Court this morning. Senior Sergeant Edwards asked that he be remanded until Thursday next. It was alleged that accused struck his wife on the head with an instrument. She was in a serious condition, but although she was still unconscious, it was not thought that her injuries would prove fatal. Probably a more serious charge —of assault causing actual bodily harm —would later be preferred acainst accused. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.. granted the remand. The condition of Mrs. ("live was reported at noon to-day to be satisfactory, considering the gravity of the injuries. She has not yet regained consciousness. however. An operation is to be performed to-morrow.
