LATE CONST. THOMASSEN.

FINE YOUNG OFFICER,

PARTICULARLY SAD DEATH

Much sympathy will be felt for the family and relatives of the late Constable P. H. Thomassen, who has just died at the early age of under 22 years. A few days ago he was in perfect health, and gave evidence in Court. An attack of tonsilitis turned to quinsy, then pneumonia supervened, and in spite of the best medical help that Auckland could provide, he passed away. He wamarried and the father of two very fine boys, and his unexpected death is all the more regrettable. A man six feet one inch in height, he was one of four brothers who, between them, totalled twenty-five feet. Another brother in the police force measures six feet seven inches. The Thomassens come of a tali fahiily on both sides. The father. Mr. G. Thomassen, is six feet three inches in height, and in his younger days was a well-known all round athlete. It was perhaps natural that such tall men should gravitate to the police, and not only deceased, but two brothers and his father have all worn the uniform, the two brothers still being in the force. The father served for some thirteen years before retiring, most of his time being spent in the South Island. At present he lives in Ponsonbv.

J|; late Constable Thomassen was one of ™ie thirteen men picked from Auckland to form part of the particularly fine body of men that went through tl.e Dominion with the Duke of York. During the tour he was specially mentioned «>y the Commissioner on parade, for meritorious conduct, and there is no doubt that had he lived he would have gone i'ai in the service.

He joined the .orce in December, 192.".. and dm-ing the short period he served he became a great favourite with his fellow constables, and showed a zeal for duty that warmly commended him to his superiors For the past three months he had been doing relieving duty at ■Newton, and his comrades there deep'v regret his untimely end. Deceased will be"given a police tuneral. «Ie interment taking place at three ©clock next Titcsdav, at jtfilkbom' CVm» terv.
