NEW LYNN REQUIREMENTS.

MASON, M.P,
DANGEROUS LEVEL CROSSINGS.
The member for Eden, Mr. H. G. R. Mason, attended the meeting of the New Lynn Town Board last evening, when matters relative to that district were placed before hint bv Mr. W. G. Lovie, chairman of the board.
Mr. Lovie dealt firstly with the inadequate Post Office, which was not in keeping with the progress of the district, pointing out that the Department possessed a valuable site on the Great North Road, growing noxious weeds.
The Highway Board's decision to only subsidise an eighteen foot bridge over the Whan Creek was next referred to. It was obvious that a grave mistake would occur if this narrow bridge was constructed when fifteen hundred vehicles passed over every four hours.
Mention was next made of the recent accidents at level crossings in the district. The Department had made many promises during the past ten years, but had not fulfilled them. It was contended that the level crossing at the station was most dangerous; especially did this apply to non-stop trains passing through the station. °
Mr. Mason was asked to facilitate the changing of the dates of town board elections, which were held in September— half-wav through the financial year. It is desiied that town boards be brought Jn line with the cities and boroughs, the elections taking place in April.
