SALMON AND PORPOISES.

ATTACKED AT THE RIVER MOUTHS. Discussing the salmon-fisheries of the Dominion at the annual meeting of the Acclimatisation Society last night, the chairman Mr. C. A. Whitney, remarked upon the havoc being caused by porpoises to quinnat salmon in the south. During a recent visit he had noticed that the salmon weighing 10 pounds or more were badly scarred through being bitten by porpoises, and he also noticed that no attack was apparently made upon the smaller salmon, However, lie thought there would be some line fish later. A member said he had recently noticed salmon bearing scars hanging in a shop at Timaru.
