TOBACCO SLUMPS.
FEATURE OF STOCK EXCHANGE (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, April 1. A feature of the Stock Exchange to-day was a slump in the shares of tobacco companies on fears that the Budget deficit would mean an increase in duties. The "Evening Standard" estimates that the ordinary share capital of the four leading tobacco companies fell by £1,800,000 in an hour.
