GLOVES FOR THE JUDGE.
WELL-BEHAVED MASTERTON. FREEDOM FROM CRIME. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) MASTERTON*,' this day. The Supreme Court opened this morning, when, there being no criminal cases, Mr. Justice Reed was presented with a pair of white gloves. His Honor congratulated the district upon freedom from crime. It was the first time in six years that he had received a pair of gloves . He had been informed that this was the third sitting of the Supreme Court here when there were no criminal cases for hearing. He would not attempt to say what the reason was for this; if he suggested that freedom from crime was due to the comparative absence of liquor in Masterton, he might get into trouble, so he would attribute the satisfactory state of affairs to the law-abiding class of person who inhabited the district. He heartily congratulated the district. ,
