CAR OVERTURNED,

OCCUPANTS ESCAPE INJURY

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.! WHANGAREI, this day. A luxuriant growth of paspalum grass on the roadside caused a motor accident near Hikurangi railway crossing on Saturday evening. While Mr. Teal, a resident of Hukerenui district was driving his wife and family, homewards he swerved his motor car on to the grass to enable , him to pass another vehicle,. thinking that the grass had a solid foundation, instead of which it masked a drop of five feet. The car overturned and three occupants in the rear seat were thrown out. The driver was pinned by part of the car, but help was quickly forthcoming, and he was extricated. The car, which had a shattered windscreen, a damaged hood and bent mudguards, was brought on to the road. Fortunately none of the occupants was injured beyond shook and minor bruises.
