TRAIN HITS MOTOR CAR.

A Sedan car owned by Mr. Claude Black, of Cameron Road, Takapuna, and driven by the owner, was struck by the Takapuna. steam tram at the junction of Cameron Road and Lake Road last night about 6.30. Mr. Black, who intended driving to Devonport, was emerging from Cameron Road, and did not hear the train—whose approach from Bayswater was hidden by a butcher's shop—until too late to clear the lines, with the result that the tram hit the car and carried it along the lines till it struck an electric pole which capsized it on to the footpath. There were three other occupants of the car, Mr. Edwin Howe (a brother-in-law of Mr. Black), Miss Ethel Black (his sister) and Miss Lorna Black (his daughter). Miss Ethel Black and Mr. Howe, who were in the back seat of the car bore the brunt of the accident, Miss Black being cut by broken glass about the head and hands, and Mr. Howe sustaining a broken collarbone and injuries to the head. Miss Lorna Black was also cut by glass but not severely. Mr. Black escaped with bruises and shock. Dr. Alexander, who was called in to attend to i;he sufferers, advised some hours later the removal of Mrs. Howe from Mr. Black's residence to the hospital as he feared a fracture at the base of the skull. The driver of the tram, Mr. E. Watkins, did what he could-to avoid the accident by applying all the brakes, but the time was too short on seeing the car to avoid the impact. The car, which was extensively damaged, is insured.
