KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR
MAN KILLED AT TE AROHA.
OUTSIDE HIS SISTER'S HOUSE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TE AROHA, this day. While returning from Te Aroha races on Saturday evening Matthew Thomas Davies, aged 54, a resident of Taupiri, met with an accident in Kenrick Street, Herriesville, and was practically killed outright. He had alighted from the car, which had stopped at the railway entrance to allow passengers to catch the train and he attempted to cross the road. In avoiding another car he slipped and fell under another car driven by Mr. Newdick, of Tauranga. It passed over his bodv The car was pulled up prompely and Davies was extricated by a number of willing helpers, while medical aid was summoned. His head was badly crushe and his legs were broken, and he died shortly after his admission to the hospital. An inquest was opened this morning and adjourned. Deceased was a brother of Mrs. Morrison, who lives opposite the spot where the accident occurred.
