Proposed Appointments to Legislative Council.

The Now South Wales Government ' sustained yet another defeat in the Legislative Council. 1 This was due to the rejection by 1" • | House of the Government's compromise j in connection with the Electoral Amendment Bill, to the effect that if the Electoral Boundaries Commission did not see lit to grant three mure country seats its finding would not l>e accepted. The compromise was rejected by o4 votes to 21. The Hou«e immediately rose. The (Government proposes to accept the Legislative Council's amendment, which provides for tho allocation of three additional seats to country centres. Agitation has been renewed in Parliamentary Labour and union circles for additional appointments of labour nominees, including women, to the Legislative Council. It is felt, however, that the Govern (Sir Dudley de Chair), in view of the fact that the present Government is now in its last year of office and that 20 Labour appointments have already been made to the Council by the Lang Government. will not agree to further appointments. The Hon. A. C". Willis gave notice in the Legislative Council that he will move to-day that the Liquor Amendment Bill, recently defeated bv the Council, be restored to the business paper.
