EXCITING FINISH IN DOMINION

HANDICAP

Fine weather, a large attendance, and excellent racing were the features of the Otahuhu Trotting Club's summer meeting, which was brought to a close *t Epsom yesterday. The finish of the Dominion Handicap, the principal event, was of the most exciting order, the first five horses going past the judge with little between them, the decision going to Cardinal Logan by a neck. The Prime Minister, the Hon. G. J. Coates, and Ministerial party arrived during the afternoon. The totalisator turnover amounted to £49,527 10/, mak-

ing £90,67S 10/ for the meeting compared with £100,38S at the summer fixture last year, a decrease of £4709 10/. The concluding results were:

Respect was in charge, followed by Rua Pere, Gold Jacket. Uncle Bert, Some Wilkes, and Van Rich, with the others handy. Respect held his position along the back from Uncle Bert Rua Pere, Van Rich. Gold Jacket. and Machine Gun. Respect was first to straighten up for the judge, with Uncle Bert, Some Wilkes, Van Rich, and Machine Gun next. In a good finish. Machine Gun beat Respect by half a length, with Jewel Pointer a head away third, half a head in front of Uncle Bert. Then followed Van Rich and Dick Dillon, with the others nulling up. Luvan began quickest but soon gave place to Mary Audubon, and when the stand was reached the first time Mary Audubon. Typist and Mulwaree were racing in line, with Luvan just in behind them. Going along the back Luvan ran to the front leading across the top. well clear of Mulwaree. Mary Audubon and Master Councillor, with a bunch following.
