"AT HOME."

An enjoyable afternoon took place at the Victoria League rooms yesterday when the League welcomed Mi*s Annie Macllvaine and a number of visitors from America. The room looked pretty with bowls of dahlias and African daisies. Miss Mowbray (president) welcomed the visitors and at the same time took the opportunity of farewelling Mrs. A. B. Donald who is one of the League's most energetic workers, and who is leaving shortly on a visit abroad.

In a ehort address Mise Macllvaine spoke of the great feeling of bondship that existed between the people of tne United States and New Zealanders. She was very impressed by the children of this country—their happy smiling faces and the lack of degeneracy, which meant that the standard of motherhood was high. Miss Macllvaine also said she had visited the Balkans and had seen the disaster wrought by the war, and she stressed the importance of international friendship*. In concluding Miss Macllvaine made an appeal to women to do their utmost to promote kindliness and friendliness. The keynote of everything was Christianity and women with a more spiritual vision have it within their power to help promote harmony. During the afternoon a dainty tea was served. Hunter Mrs. Stanley Chambers, Mrs. Napier, Mrs. Lamb, Mrs. C. F. Bennett, Mrs. Keeble, Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane, Mrs. Dransfield, Mrs. Hunter, MrsBush. Mrs. Archie, Mm. Virtue.
