ENGINEERING SCHOOLS.

DANGER IN DUPLICATION.

PROFESSOR POWELL'S OPINION.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.*

CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday.

"I do not think it is altogether for the good of the country." said Professor P. H. Powell, dean of the engineering faculty of Canterbury College, when referring to the recognition of the Auckland University College as a school of engineering.

"One thoroughly efficient place is better than two partially complete colleges," said the professor. "New Zealand can absorb only a certain number of engineering students each ear and another centre duplicating the Canterbury College will result in there being either too many engineers or an insufficient number of students for each college."
