THE ODD STOCKING.

New Idea of Three to a Pair. POPULAE INNOVATION. (Received 12.30 p.m.) LOXDOX, February 21. Cables from New York announce a sudden craze of selling women's stockings in threes instead of pairs on the principle of the spare motor car tyre. The idea has caught on in London, where leading stores are testing the public demand. The principle is that out of every pair one is usually quickly rendered useless owing to laddering, therefore three stockings give double wear to the pair. Women point out that it is necessary to include the third stocking in thevwash otherwise there would be a noticeable difference in colour. Wholesalers deprecate the idea, emphasising the expense if it became necessary to repack present stocks in threes instead of twos.
