MeMurtrie and Co., Ltd., one of the largest boot manufacturing firms in Sydney, employing 000 men and women, has announced that if the Child Endowment Bill becomes law. the company will be compelled either to transfer its factories to Victoria or to close down altogether and import their requirements from that State. The president of the Chamber of Manufacturers stated that many other manufacturers will be compelled to close down if the endowment scheme is put into operation resulting in an enormous increase of unemployment.
