THE ATTTTTBO MEETING CONCLUDES. JACKSON STAKES TO REREMOAXA. NOVAR LIFTS THE EARLE STAKES. (By Telegraph. -Special to "Star.") WANGANTJI, Saturday. Backers started very badly at the concluding day of the Wanganui Jockev Club's autumn meeting, for three outsiders came home in succession. However, three favourites were successful in the next three races. Reremoana won the Jackson Stakes for the second successive year—incidentally he was the outsider of the field. Novar, the Manawatu Cup winner, took the big handicap, the Earle Stakes, this success being well anticipated. In the Harrison Handicap, for two-year-olds, Damaris got the verdict. The totalisator handled £31,505 10/ for the day, making a total of £57,787 for the meeting—a decrease of £16,104 10/ compared with the corresponding returns for 1926. A Close Finish. Oratin, Tukia, and Melissa were scratched for the T ackson Stakes, leavin five to contest the L . the public were astray in their :alculations, for the outsider of the field, Reremoana, came home. The Hawk was nearly twice as well backed as Grand Knight, while Lysander was next favoured. Limited drew the rails, and was soon in front. When they had gone a furlong he was just about" half a length in front of Lysander, with The Hawk. Grand Knight, and Reremoana racing practically on terms just behind them. Limited and Lysander were together crossing the top, with the others the bunched, The Hawk being on the rails and Reremoana on the outside. Limited and Lysander were first to turn for home from Reremoana, and the latter, going on, beat Lysander by a neck, with The Hawk a similar distance away, a head in front of Grand Knight. Reremoana won this race last year. The Hawk was blocked in at the" turn, and could not get through. The time 1.12 4-5 has been beaten in this event once previously, when Gloaming ran the distance in 1.12 2-5. A Favourite at Last. Ardath was twice as web supported as Matu for the Fordell Hurdles, with Gold Peak next fancied. Gold Peak was scon in front, and led past the stands from Ardath, Ma f u, Comedy Prince, and Elvaette. Along the back "Ardath was on terms with Gold Peak, with Comedy Price and Matu rexir. Ardath was in command before tlie straight was reached, being attended by Matu, Gold Peak, and Elvaette, and had no difficulty io. waning easily by five lengths from M.-Uu, who beat Goid Peak by a similar aktajce. Elvaette was fourth. The Juveniles. Damaris, the half-sister to Lysander and Motley, was made a warm favourite for the Harrison Two-year-old Handicap. being supported to the extent of about £620 more than Ruanui, with Panther next in request. Damaris was slow to move. Vigilance led across the top from Ruanui, Damaris and Panther. Vigilance and Damaris were first to turn for home from Ruanui and Panther. Damaris then took charge, and, stalling '/ff Panther, beat him by a long neck. Vigilance was half a length n'.vay third, ynd Ruanui last. Novar Wins WelL Novar was favourite for the Earle Stakes, carrying about £150 more than Mint Leaf, while Nukumai was next in demand. When they settled down Ngata and Opa were in front and led past the stands from Mint Leaf, Nukumai and Novar, with Mask and Euphonium together last. Opa and Ngata were still together along the back from Nukumai, Novar, Mint Leaf, Euphonium and Mask. Ngata and Opa were first to turn for home from Mint Leaf and Nukumai. Novar, on the outside, then put in his claim and got up in time to beat Nukumai by three-quarters of a length. Mint Leaf was a head away third, with Opa close up fourth. Ngata, Mask and Euphonium finished as named. A Hot Favourite Beaten. King's Folly was made twice as good a favourite as Whenuanui for the Matarawa Hack Race, while Ozarone was next best backed. Crosing the top Ohui was in charge from Whenuanui, Break-o'-Day, King's Folly and Sea Star. Whenuanui led into the straight from King-'s Folly, Ohui and Paitonu. and going on beat King's Folly by two lengths, with Paitonu a length and ahalf away. Royal Elm was fourth, with Break-o'-Day and Orazone next. The Concluding Event. Civility, Benzora and Oration were scratched for the Farewell Handicap, for which Shirley, Gaillard and the bracket Tamatete and Tukia were best fancied " Tamatete was first out but Shirley took charge crossing the top leading into the straight from Nadarino and won by half a length from Merry Jest, with Mireusonta a length further back.
