SOUTH SEA ADVENTURE.

■■' ' ■———^» VETERAN CAPTAIN'S LATEST VOTAGE. PASTOR AS FIRST MATE. Amongst the passengers who arrived in Auckland to-day by the Island steamer Tofua is Captain E. A. Stenbeck, a well-known figure in the South Seas. The captain was a pilot in the port of Auckland nearly 40 years ago, and 36 years have elapsed since he sailed his first vessel out of the harbour. He knows the Islands better than most men, and a good many exciting adventures have come his way. ni s latest exploit has been sailing a small ketch, the Loloma, from Fijf to the New Hebrides, a distance of 640 milec. Loloma was recently built bv Marlow and Co., of Suva, for the Seventh Day Adventists, and she will be used for missionary work in the New Hebridean group. She is a schoonerrigged boat, and is equipped with a 12 h.p. crude oil engine. Captain Stenbeck's mate on the Loloma's first voyage was Pastor McLaren, and there was a crew of four Fijian "boys." The captain informed a "Star" representative that the voyage was pleasant and uneventful, the Weather conditions being all that could be I desired. "Pastor McLaren made a first-class mate," he said, "and he is quite capable of sailing the ketch on her next long trip." Loloma is now cruising amongst the Islands under the command of another clergyman.
