LEADING CHAINS FOR DOGS.

Last week you published Senator Yest't masterpiece which has made dog lovers the world over realise what "an absolutely unselfish friend" is worth. Unfortunately, our City Fathers have been so engrossed with the Civic Centre that obviously they did not read this wonderful speech, which has to do with mere unselfish friendship, otherwise how could they have done what they have to our dog friends? At their last meeting our councillors approved of a by-law which, if enforced, will make every dog a life-long prisoner, either in his owner's little backyard or '•controlled" by a leading chain. How many of us have s«_-en that warm friendship which makes a dog escort his folk to their tramcar or upon their little shopping jaunts, and which makes him watch and wait for their return so that he may meet and welcome them with the sincerest of devotion? It would be more human if our councillors were to approve of a by-law to exterminate our "absolutely unselfish friends" rather than rob them of all real exercise and cramp their natural habits, but before they do, I would recommend them to read the above oration which was so opportunely reprinted bv vou. A DOG LOVER.
